Fishing

Kariba is known to have some of the best fishing in the world! From the tasty bream fish to the fighting tiger, this lake has all the excitement! The 2014 Kariba International Tiger Fishing Tournament saw 113 four-person teams participate. During the week, a total of 4900kg of Tiger Fish were caught by hook at an average of 1.9kg per fish!

Don’t forget to purchase your worms!! We recommend the spot on the left just before Banket (80km from Harare), but if you miss this, don't worry, there are many places to buy worms along the road - even 'Anaconda worms', if advertising is to be believed! For tiger fishing you'll need kapenta, which can be bought in Harare or Kariba.

Game viewing

Kariba offers an extraordinary game viewing experience. As you float or drive by the banks of Kariba, you can watch elephants, hippo, lion and various smaller game as they drink, bathe and play around the water's edge.

Kariba's famous dead trees, engulfed and petrified by the water, provide a dramatic and beautiful setting for bird watching. Fish eagles are the pride of the Lake and their haunting call echos over the water.

Visit the Kariba dam wall

Kariba dam wall is a man-man masterpiece with rich and intriguing history; from the problematic construction to the relocating of thousands of animals by the National Parks as the water rose. A trip to the viewing spot in the image to the right is a short 15 minute drive from the harbour, and a small fee can be paid to walk along the top of the 126 metre-high wall! > More about the dam
